As the tempo of modern life has continued to accelerate, we feel an invisible stopwatch ticking, even when we are trying to have some fun. So every once in a while we need an activity to help us slow down and appreciate the fun things in life with a smile. In light of this, the Goan Community of Oman (GCO), Youth Wing, organized the “FUN SPORTS 2013” on Friday 25th October 2013, in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ruwi at the Basketball Court.

The mission of the event was purely to break all routine. A night of fun, games and a night to win acclaims. There was no need for fancy shoes. All the parishioners, needed to do, were to let loose. It was a great opportunity for enjoyment and socialization between all communities of all our parishes in Oman.

We had 5 mixed age group teams, comprising of 20 members each, which were inspired by names of saints like St. Francis Xavier, Don Bosco, St. Peter, St. Paul and St. Anthony.

As the teams registered themselves, participants were handed over name tags, matching their team names. Father Wilson, assistant parish priest, led us with an opening prayer and declared the Fun Sports open. The event began with a march past by all the participating teams, led by their chosen team captains holding team name plaque cards.

The highlights of the fun sports were the four games that suited all the age groups, teens, youth and adults who participated with great gusto and energy. Our in-house DJ, kept the crowd in a cheerful mood with great music during the games. Each team displayed immense team spirit and were awarded points at the end of each game, which led to their grand total.

St. Francis Xavier emerged winners of the event and the second place was bagged by team Don Bosco.

GCO would like to take this opportunity to thank Omantel and Oman Refreshments Co. (Pepsi) who were our sponsors for the event.  Our special thanks to all the volunteers and committee members who gave their full support towards creating another successful event.
At the end, it was a fun filled spectacle, a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere, with wonderful sporting spirits and funniest moments captured.
Looking forward to your support as always.
