The Goan community of Oman (GCO) organized its annual picnic on Saturday 12th of October at the Al Hosni Farmhouse - Suwaiq. Assembly was at 8 o’clock at the Ruwi post office in CBD.

The weather was perfect, attendance was great and we were all looking forward to some pleasant and wholesome fun. We departed to the farm in 2 buses as we sang goan songs and played travel games till we reached our destination.

The picnic began with a morning prayer led by our spiritual director of the GCO, Father Wilson Rumao, followed by breakfast as the DJ, entertained the picnickers with some light music. After breakfast, we moved on to have our first game of the day for the ladies. It was an action game in which they had to do an action corresponding to a name of a fruit as shown to them.  The game was hilariously fun. There was lots of laughter and entertainment .A very enthusiastic group of ladies indeed, who made it quite a tricky task for the judges to pull up those who went wrong.

The game was followed with a dance session. Dj Remy kept the picnickers tapping their feet  as he played lovely slow and jive numbers. No goan picnic is complete without the famous Goan masalas. Everybody danced very enthusiastically till lunch time. The youth had a fabulous time with recent foot tapping numbers as well and in the meanwhile the crowd also used the swimming pool to maximum advantage to beat the heat. The kids especially had a great time splashing around in the water right from the start with their colorful floats and swimming costumes and neither did the adults , pass up an opportunity to refresh themselves in the cool water.

Alongside we had a game for the couples present at the picnic. The old favourite, Paper dance, where the dance floor gets smaller and smaller in a contest that requires lots of energy to get your groove on, and lots of balance to keep it. All our Goemkar couples did a fabulous job and finally we had a winner emerge.

After lunch, it was time for the age old game of housie lead by our GCO committee member Mrs. Ida Lopez.  We had lovely prizes up for grabs sponsored by Omantel and Al-Hosni group. Following the game, we had the prize distribution for the winners of all the games and the spot prizes given during the course of the day.

The evening ended with a mention of all our upcoming events for the year .The vote of thanks was given by Mr. Anthony Lourenco, Vice-President of the GCO.

We would like to thank our sponsors and all the members who were directly or indirectly involved in the organization of the picnic. Thank you all fellow goemkars for making this yet another successful event and we look forward to your unending support as always.
