The Goan Community of Oman- Youth wing organized the “YOUTH MASQUERADE BALL 2013” on Thursday 10th OCTOBER 2013 in the Main Parish Hall of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Ruwi and was open to all Catholic Youth of all communities from all parishes in Oman.
With more than 200 people in attendance the evening began with Father Wilson Rumao, Spiritual Director of the GCO, and assistant Parish Priest of Ruwi Church, leading us with an opening prayer invoking the blessings of our Heavenly Father and asking our blessed Mother to intercede for each of us, following which the dance floor was opened to the youth. Our Dj, for the night, Dj Remy played tunes that the youth could not resist and continued to be on the dance floor from the beginning to the very end. Moreover, our anchors for the evening did a wonderful job ensuring everyone was on the dance floor.
It was publicized that there would be a prize for the best and most creative “MASK” which was bagged by Ms. Melody D’souza and was awarded by Mr.Herman Estibeiro , Cultural coordinator of the GCO. The runners-up for the most creative “MASK” was bagged by Ms. Rebekah Rebeiro and awarded by Mr. Domingos Dsouza ,Helpline Coordinator of GCO.
During the entire program, a lot of spot prizes were given away and one of the most important highlights of the Youth Masquerade Ball was the crowning of the ‘Masquerade King and Queen -2013’.
This time the team decided to do it a little differently. The king and queen were selected based on their introduction and prior familiarity with the audience. This way every contestant got an equal opportunity to reach out to the youth present at the venue and the decision would be unbiased. Those willing to participate had to send us their recent photographs that were to be displayed at the venue. There was a voting booth set up where attendees voted for their favorite contestants.
Master Jonathan Bennett and Ms. Sydelle Estibeiro were crowned Youth Masquerade King and Queen 2013 by Mr. Anthony Lourenco, Vice President-Cultural and Sports, GCO and Mr Savio Carvalho, Vice President–General respectively. The evening ended with the crowning process and the prize distribution for Best Mask, followed by the upcoming events of the GCO for the year 2013.
The Youth Masquerade Ball 2013 was a resounding success. The smile on everyone’s face at the end of the night was a surety that the evening went great and had a positive impact. We urge all the Youth to come to support, encourage and be a part of all upcoming events organized by the GCO with all their family members and friends.
